To understand the economic implications of natural and human-caused hazards, the Alward Institute for Collaborative Science has created a web-based, interactive disaster map that allows users to model direct and indirect consequences associated with climate change or other types of disasters.
The web map allows users to select directly impacted counties and embed damage scenarios into our hosted API. The API then applies the damage scenarios to our multi-regional database of social accounts and displays results on a dynamic mapping tool. The mapping tool allows users to observe economic consequences in counties directly impacted by the disaster, as well as consequences in counties indirectly impacted through reduced supply chain activity. It also aggregates and displays economic impacts by sector.
